Bagan is in central Myanmar and is home to over 2,000 temples that were built between the 9th and 13th century. You can rent an electric scooter and venture around to the various temples. If you get good weather (we did not), sunrise is dotted with hot air balloons. It’s a wonderful place to spend a relaxing few days enjoying the history and countryside.
There are some great hikes. We trekked up Mount Popa which is a volcano about 50km southeast of Bagan. Nice break from visiting all of the temples. We hired a local guide to lead the way for the 4 hour hike. Unfortunately, our streak of bad weather continued and the clouds blocked the view at the top but it was enjoyable nonetheless.
Seven Sisters has amazing dinner. Definitely try the lentil vermicelli soup!
