Salento is the sleepy coffee town southwest of Bogota or so we thought. Each January the town thrown a huge anniversary party of the town’s founding. We happened to arrive on just the right weekend. Then main square had been transformed with stages, dancing areas, food stalls, cheap beer and lots of aqaudentie. A quiet weekend quickly become a good opportunity to practice our salsa skills.
There’s a wonderful day hike in Corcora Valley about 45 minutes from Salento. the hike takes 5-6 hours and is half uphill and then half down hill. Overall, it’s moderately difficult. There’s a nice place to rest at the top, have a picnic and enjoy the sweeping views of the valley below. Make sure to pack a raincoat! The weather changed as we were hiking down and we got caught in a torrential downpour that left us all drenched!
