Many refer to the beautiful city of Buenos Aires as the “Paris of South America” but it reminded me of the intoxication of a New York City summer with a touch of Madrid flare. There is something entrancing about the vibe of this city making me wish I had an extra week to wander the streets and explore. There are lovely green parks, outdoor cafes and plenty of people watching and of course tango performances.
This is a wonderful city to explore of foot either with a free walking tour or your own. From the trendy bohemian area of San Telmo to the color streets of La Boca there is so much to see. The Recoleta Cemetery, where Eva Peron and many other rich and famous Argentines are buried, is worth a visit to see all of the intricate architecture of the mausoleums.
The Buenos Aires’ nightlife lives up to its reputation and the party gets started late. Expect 10pm dinners to be the norm followed by dancing that starts at 1am. For an authentic Argentinian experience, check out a tango show in the city where the dance originated. Many tango clubs will do a dance class followed by open dancing and then a show. However, unless you actually know how to dance tango (it’s hard!) you can’t really participate in the open dancing because those dancers know how to tango!
