I found my happy place in the Gilis. The Gilis are made up of three islands: Gili Trawangan, Gili Air and Gili Meno. There are no motorbikes – only bicycles and horse drawn carriages. Rent a bike and wander around the island.
Snorkeling is a great day trip for only $8. So many enormous sea turtles! For a chill night, there’s a outside theater on the beach where you can chill in a bean bag and watch a movie. Best place in town to eat is the night market – favorite meal was $3! There are various vendors set up and you can choose fish to be grilled or go for premade goodies that you can take to go.
There are lots of great beach bars where you can snag a bean bag or lounger for buying a drink. If you’re feeling adventurous, the Gilis are known for magic mushrooms shakes that you can order at cafes.
After overstaying Gili T by a day and missing my flight to Bangkok, I took a boat to Gili Air. I loved Gili Air even more than Gili T. It’s more chill but still has enough to do so that you don’t get bored. I stayed at Captain Coconuts which has the most amazing open air dorm room with beds that hang from the ceiling. The Gilis are also know for world class diving. You can can read more on my adventures in diving here.
